1. Screen – yes or no?
   This is the most important decision of all. Many retro cameras still have a small screen on the back – and with that, they immediately lose their biggest advantage over smartphones.
   Our tip: A camera without a screen could be an option. Why? Because it helps you truly stay in the moment. You take photos without immediately checking if they turned out well. That's exactly what gives it its retro charm – the anticipation for later.

2. Image quality - how many megapixels do I really need?
   For retro cameras: 12 megapixels is the standard you should have at a minimum. That's easily enough for social media, good prints, and beautiful souvenir photos.
   Fewer than 12 megapixels can look blurry on larger prints. You don't really need more than 12 megapixels for your everyday snapshots.
3. Filters – change directly at the touch of a button
   The big advantage of a retro digital camera over a normal camera: You choose your filter before taking the photo, not afterwards in an app. This immediately gives your photos character, without post-processing.
   Important: Make sure you can change the filter directly on the camera at the touch of a button – spontaneously, on the go, without a laptop. With some cameras, you first have to connect the camera to the computer and change the filter via software. That sounds like a minor detail, but it makes a huge difference in everyday life. If you want to switch spontaneously from retro to black and white at a festival or on holiday, you need to be able to do it at the touch of a button – not via a laptop.

4. Battery – how long does it last?
   Nothing is more frustrating than a camera that runs out of battery after 200 photos. Make sure the battery lasts for at least 500-800 photos per charge – that's enough for an entire festival weekend or a multi-day trip.
   Important: The camera should be rechargeable via USB-C. No extra charger, no proprietary cable – just the same cable as your phone.
5. iPhone with Lightning connector? Pay attention to the adapter
   If you have an older iPhone with a Lightning connector (iPhone 14 or older), you need to be careful when transferring photos. Most retro cameras come with a USB-C cable – which works directly with newer iPhones and Android. For Lightning iPhones, you will also need an adapter.
